Growing Up in a Different World

When I think about the next generation of young women, I often wonder what their experience of growing up will look like compared to previous generations.

In many ways, they are entering a world that offers more opportunity than ever before. Women today are visible in leadership roles, entrepreneurship, science, politics, and creative industries. The idea that women can pursue ambitious careers or design unconventional lives is more accepted than it once was.

Though, at the same time, the world young women are growing up in comes with its own set of challenges. Social media has created an environment where comparison is constant and unavoidable. Young girls are exposed to beauty standards, lifestyle expectations, and relationship ideals long before they fully understand how curated and unrealistic many of those images are.

It’s a complex environment to grow up in, one that’s filled with both opportunity and pressure.

Confidence That Isn’t Built on Comparison

If there’s one thing I hope the next generation of women develops, it’s a form of confidence that isn’t dependent on comparison. The kind of confidence that comes from knowing your voice matters. From understanding your worth regardless of how closely you match someone else’s idea of success.

Confidence that isn’t tied to likes, followers, appearance, or external validation. Because real confidence isn’t loud or performative. It’s quiet, steady, and grounded. And it’s the ability to pursue your interests, express your opinions, and make decisions about your life without constantly questioning whether you are “good enough.”

Freedom to Define Their Own Success

Perhaps the most important thing I hope for future generations of women is freedom. Freedom to choose the lives that genuinely fulfil them.

For some women, that may mean building a career or starting a business. For others, it may mean travelling the world, raising a family, pursuing creative passions, or creating a lifestyle that doesn’t fit neatly into traditional categories.

There is no single blueprint for a meaningful life. And the more society begins to accept that idea, the more empowered women will feel to design lives that align with their personal values rather than external expectations.

If the progress we’re seeing today continues, the next generation of women may grow up with something incredibly valuable. The freedom to become whoever they truly want to be.
